Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has assured that Türkiye’s capital markets maintain their resilience, despite recent disturbances in the investment fund sector. Speaking after a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized that the challenges are confined to a specific segment of the fund market and do not threaten the wider financial system.
Erdoğan highlighted that the government is actively managing the liquidation of the affected funds, while also working on preventative measures to avert similar issues in the future. He pledged that legal actions would be pursued against individuals responsible for activities that have impacted market stability.
The assurance comes in the wake of investigations launched earlier this month into alleged share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks. These developments have led to losses and increased redemption pressures on some investment funds.
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has indicated that legal proceedings are ongoing against those implicated in the manipulation, and he reaffirmed that measures to uphold financial stability will remain enforced.
In response to the situation, Erdoğan is also expected to convene with economic officials and related institutions to further review the developments and discuss additional measures concerning the investment fund market.
