Türkiye’s defense and aerospace sector has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing $11 billion in exports over a rolling 12-month period for the first time. This accomplishment underscores the growing strength and global reach of Türkiye’s defense industry. The latest figures reveal that in June alone, defense and aerospace exports amounted to $802.8 million, marking a substantial 29.6% increase compared to the same month in the previous year. Over the first half of the year, exports saw a 29.5% rise year-on-year, totaling $4.67 billion.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), highlighted this growth as a reflection of the rising international demand for Turkish defense products. He emphasized that Türkiye’s defense systems have not only proven their effectiveness in real-world operations but have also facilitated the establishment of long-term international partnerships. This success contributes to the continued expansion of Türkiye’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, showcasing its capability to meet global standards.
Over the past two decades, Türkiye has made significant strides in developing its domestic defense industry, which has led to a marked reduction in reliance on foreign military equipment. This strategic move towards self-sufficiency has positioned Türkiye as a major player on the global stage, with the country now exporting more than 230 different defense products to 185 countries worldwide.
Looking ahead, Türkiye aims to cement its status among the world’s top 10 defense exporters. This ambition is supported by its robust export growth and the international demand that continues to drive the country’s defense industry forward. The ongoing commitment to innovation and development within the sector reflects Türkiye’s strategic vision to enhance its global footprint in defense and aerospace markets.
