In a recent phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan highlighted the renewed significance of Türkiye-European Union relations amidst rising regional tensions. The dialogue, which took place on Tuesday, delved into various regional and global issues that underline the strategic partnership between Türkiye and the EU.

Erdoğan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to uphold a ceasefire and foster peace in the region’s ongoing conflict. He noted the critical necessity of reopening the Strait of Hormuz promptly, underscoring its importance for regional stability and global economic interests.

During the call, Erdoğan also expressed concerns regarding Israel’s actions, accusing the nation of perpetuating regional conflicts and violating international law through acts akin to piracy. He urged increased international pressure on Israel to adhere to legal and diplomatic norms.
