Türkiye, Bulgaria, and Romania have agreed to enhance their collaborative security efforts in the Black Sea region by signing a new memorandum during the NATO summit in Ankara. This updated agreement extends the responsibilities of their joint task force beyond its original mission of clearing naval mines. Now, the force will also be tasked with safeguarding critical infrastructure, such as energy facilities, telecommunications networks, and undersea pipelines.
The trilateral mission was initially launched in response to heightened security risks following the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which necessitated greater vigilance in the Black Sea.
