Türkiye’s pioneering high school dedicated to renewable energy has achieved a significant milestone by advancing to the final stages of the World’s Best School Prizes. This prestigious international awards program honors schools globally for their innovative practices and positive societal and environmental contributions. Located in Ankara, the Cezeri Green Technology Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, founded in 2017, has been named one of the top 10 contenders in the Environmental Action category.
The school stands out for its unique integration of renewable energy systems into its educational curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience in working with actual energy systems and analyzing energy data. The curriculum emphasizes reducing carbon emissions, enhancing energy efficiency, and encouraging zero-waste initiatives. Among its noteworthy projects is the Energy Detectives Project, which educates middle school students on carbon footprints and energy conservation. This program empowers students to monitor and manage energy and water usage in their schools, aiming to reduce consumption.
In addition to its educational endeavors, the school has made significant contributions to disaster relief efforts. Notably, it developed an energy bank designed to supply electricity to temporary shelters in the aftermath of earthquakes, showcasing its commitment to practical and impactful environmental solutions.
The school’s initiatives are further strengthened through collaboration with Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, which provides practical training and laboratory support for student projects. This partnership ensures that students receive comprehensive education and training essential for advancing in the field of renewable energy.
The World’s Best School Prizes, organized by T4 Education, recognize outstanding schools across five distinct categories. As the competition progresses, the international public is invited to participate in voting for this year’s finalists, with voting open until the end of October. This recognition underscores the school’s dedication to environmental action and innovation on a global platform.
