Türkiye’s commitment to enhancing its maritime security and defense capabilities was underscored at the Teknofest Blue Homeland closing ceremony, with senior officials emphasizing the importance of these efforts. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz highlighted the significance of protecting the nation’s maritime interests, referred to as the “Blue Homeland,” in the face of escalating geopolitical tensions and competition over critical technologies, energy resources, and trade routes.
The ceremony, held at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard, was a showcase of Türkiye’s naval advancements, featuring 37 vessels and four aircraft, including notable assets such as the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and Murat Reis submarine. Additionally, domestically developed unmanned maritime systems were on display, reflecting the country’s progress in integrating advanced technology into its defense strategy.
Yılmaz elaborated on Türkiye’s expanding capabilities in merging manned and unmanned platforms, utilizing artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced sensors, and secure communications to bolster defense operations. He noted a significant achievement in the defense sector, with the localization rate surpassing 80%, as Türkiye continues to solidify its status among the world’s leading defense exporters.
Teknofest Blue Homeland also served as a platform for encouraging innovation among young engineers and innovators. The event included competitions focusing on unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies, showcasing Türkiye’s dedication to fostering technological advancement in these critical areas.
