Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding investors and maintaining economic stability amid an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the country’s capital markets. This pledge comes as authorities scrutinize potential misconduct involving several investment funds.
The investigation has led to the Capital Markets Board taking decisive action by ordering the closure of several investment funds managed by seven portfolio management companies, with some funds set to be liquidated. These steps are part of broader measures aimed at protecting investors from financial losses.
To oversee the liquidation process of the affected funds, Erdoğan announced the establishment of a fully authorized board led by the vice president. Additionally, the State Supervisory Council is set to play a role in this process, reflecting the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
In a further development, judicial actions have been taken, resulting in the arrest of five suspects linked to the investigation. Prosecutors are delving into allegations that include fraud, money laundering, and violations of capital markets laws, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Erdoğan assured that those found responsible for any wrongdoing would be held accountable, reinforcing the government’s resolve to ensure the integrity of Türkiye’s financial system. He stressed that the issues identified are confined to a specific segment of the fund market, and institutions are actively working to preserve financial stability.
