In a significant boost to Türkiye’s international standing, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hailed the success of the NATO Summit hosted in Ankara on July 7–8. The event drew global attention with the participation of key world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, which Erdoğan described as a historic achievement for Türkiye. He emphasized the summit’s role in showcasing the country’s expanding influence in global diplomacy.
Erdoğan highlighted the consensus among NATO leaders on the necessity to eliminate barriers to cooperation within the defense industry. He further announced that NATO plans to establish a Counter-Unmanned Systems Centre of Excellence in Konya, a move that underscores Türkiye’s strategic importance in the alliance. This development is seen as a testament to Türkiye’s growing role in addressing contemporary security challenges.
The summit also featured a Defence Industry Forum, which attracted nearly 1,000 participants, underscoring Türkiye’s pivotal role in the defense sector. Erdoğan expressed optimism that this event will not only enhance Türkiye’s international reputation but also boost tourism, further solidifying its stature on the global stage.
Looking towards future collaborations, Erdoğan reiterated his commitment to strengthening ties with the United States, particularly through increasing bilateral trade to a target of $100 billion. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the region, which remains a cornerstone of his administration’s foreign policy.
In addition to diplomatic and economic aspirations, Erdoğan extended condolences to Qatar, marking the passing of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, reflecting Türkiye’s solidarity with regional partners during times of loss.
